Crohn's and Colitis UK Research Funding Crohn's and Colitis UK has two separate funding programmes, one for Medical Awards and one for Social, Psychological or Health Services Awards. With effect from 2006, the intention is that there will be an opportunity to apply for both programmes every year. About £350,000 is available each year, but Crohn's and Colitis UK hopes to raise this to £500,000 by the end of 2007.

from 2001 to 2006 Crohn's and Colitis UK Medical Research Awards Grants are usually for one or two year projects and can cover staff salaries and consumables, but not institutional overhead costs. PhD research projects have not often been funded, but are not excluded. Crohn's and Colitis UK is willing to consider applications for relatively small amounts for pilot projects which, if successful, might lead to an application for a larger project. Any aspect of research related to Colitis or Crohn’s Disease can be considered. Medical Research Awards 2012 Applications are invited for the year 2012 grants to be awarded by Crohn’s and Colitis UK. Research Projects may be directed towards any aspect of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Funding will be awarded for periods of up to two years. The grants awarded will normally be up to a maximum of £120,000. Applications for pilot studies under £10,000 will also be acceptable.. Closing date for applications for this award was 15 November 2011 and applications are no longer being accepted. Living with IBD Research Awards 2012 Applications are invited for research into the social and psychological aspects of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease) and their impact on patients and their families. Funding will normally be awarded for periods of up to two years and will not normally exceed £120,000 for any one project. Peer Review of Applications In assessing all applications, Crohn's and Colitis UK follows peer-review principles approved by the Association of Medical Research Charities. For example, the Chairman of the Committee may not apply for grants, any Committee member associated with an application or applicant institution is excluded from the award discussion and reports are requested from two external referees on each application. Crohn's and Colitis UK has been awarded the AMRC Certificate of Good Practice for its peer review procedures. |
