We're the UK's leading charity for Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.
Right now, an estimated 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of and for which there is no known cure. Because of the stigma and misunderstanding surrounding these diseases, thousands of people are suffering in silence. But they're not alone. We're here for them. And we're not going anywhere until we've beaten Crohn's and Colitis for good.
Starting between £50,000 - £55,000 per annum depending on experience
Place of work: Flexible
This is an exciting new role at the charity to lead our programme of work to build a research and evidence programme which improves our understanding of the experiences of all those affected by Crohn’s and Colitis including those from seldom heard groups, and the interventions that meet their needs. You will be responsible for two teams and a budget of around £1m.
The Head of Research and Evidence is responsible for three strands of work: delivering our new research strategy; building an evidence and insight programme on life with Crohn’s and Colitis; and supporting quality improvement activities with our healthcare professional partners as part of IBD UK.
This work is central to our new strategy, positioning the charity as the experts on lived experience of Crohn’s and Colitis based on evidence.
You’ll have a thorough understanding of the UK research landscape, including how research programmes are developed and funded, which will enable you to lead the charity’s work in this area. You will be familiar with a range of methodological approaches used to build an evidence base and provide expert advice to support our aim to become an evidence and insight led charity. You will need to be a credible leader in your sector to be able to operate amongst your peers.
The charity is at a really exciting point. We are in excellent financial health and moving to a new strategy which will give you the chance to put a personal stamp on the actions we are taking to improve the quality of life for people with Crohn’s and Colitis.
We are based in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, so we are easily accessible by road and rail. But one thing we have learned from the pandemic, is that we are able to work very effectively from home. In this role, there is plenty of scope for doing that although there will be times when you will need to be at face-to-face meetings. It is possible therefore you could live almost anywhere in the country. If you want to be considered for the role but are worried about location, talk to us – it may work!
