Connect wins Membership Magazine of the Year

29 November 2019

Our membership magazine Connect won Membership Magazine of the Year and Cover of the Year at PPA Scottish Magazine awards last night.

Connect magazine is a high quality members' magazine that keeps members up to date with the our activities and campaigns, as well as the latest news on researchon Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.

Up against the likes of Beano and The Big Issue, Crohn’s & Colitis UK membership magazine, Connect, has won Member Magazine of the Year and Cover of the Year at the PPA Scottish Magazine Awards. In the running with other esteemed magazines with much larger budgets and circulations, it is a real achievement to have won in these categories.

Connect won Member Magazine of the Year, which recognised the publication that has best served the members or customers of an organisation, society or institution, as a medium for news, views and information in the last year.

Connect also won the public vote for Cover of the Year award. This category rewarded the very best cover of a Scottish magazine in the last year and was voted for by the public, through an online poll.

The ‘Best for babies’ edition shows a reader breastfeeding her 13-month-old daughter. Breastfeeding is a hot topic for new and expectant mothers, and it becomes an even more complicated one for people living with Crohn’s or Colitis.

I just wanted to say how uplifted I was to open the envelope containing Connect magazine and see the feature on breastfeeding and IBD on the cover. There is so much misunderstanding about medication and breastfeeding so it’s just great to see this.

I was delighted to see an older baby on the cover, and some of the mothers interviewed had breastfed their babies into toddlerhood. It’s rare for features like this to be in mainstream media, so well done Connect!

The magazine explored breastfeeding, in particular looking at the effect of drugs on breast milk and the challenges parents face.
