Making life better for people with IBD: My IBD Portal

Published 18 September 2017

Crohn's & Colitis UK, in collaboration with Salford Royal Hospitals NHS Trust, has been shortlisted for an HSJ award in the category Improving Care with Technology

In a unique collaboration with Crohn’s & Colitis UK, local patients, healthcare and IT teams, My IBD Portal was developed, implemented and evaluated over three years, with patients and healthcare professionals at the heart of its development.

It is an interactive web-based tool for people with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) to use to empower them to manage their life with IBD better. Users of the portal will have interactive, personalised, electronic health information readily available, which will enable them to become active partners in their healthcare.

My IBD Portal supports a system of guided self-management via a secure login, offering improved access to personal health records, plans of care and interactive disease management and monitoring tools. Personalised information links from Crohn’s & Colitis UK’s patient information booklets are also integrated throughout the portal.

It is expected that the portal, which is currently only available to patients in Salford, will be rolled out across the UK to improve the quality of care and ultimately support better health outcomes for people with IBD.

The winner of the award will be announced on 22 November 2017.
