Impact Report released after awarding £5.2M to research in last 10 years

21 September 2017

Crohn's and Colitis UK has published The Power of Research – 10 years of Crohn’s and Colitis UK research. Our first Research Impact Report about how £5.2 million has been awarded to over 80 groundbreaking research projects since 2008.

The Power of Research covers a decade of dedicated hard work and support – and the impact that researchers have made towards improving the lives of people affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Over 30 years of supporting life-changing research into the understanding, causes and treatments of IBD has only been made possible by the commitment and generosity of the people who have helped to build, and continue to support, this amazing charity; standing alongside the researchers and scientists who use their innovation and skill to seek results. This is a shared achievement to be proud of, and to build upon as we go forward with new research ambitions that can help us to achieve our vision:  “Improved Lives Today, A World Free of Crohn’s & Colitis Tomorrow”.

From increased understanding and improvements of people’s symptoms, to greater support for people to live better with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, this research is making a difference and helping us meet our vision of a world free of Crohn’s and Colitis.

Professor Jon Rhodes, Chairman of Medical Research Panel,
Crohn’s and Colitis UK

This Research Impact Report is fantastic in showing the incredible work we have been investing in over the last 10 years. We have come a long way in our understanding of the complexities of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, but there is still so much we do not know and need to find out. These investments into research are critical if we want to improve lives today and have a world free from Crohn’s and Colitis tomorrow.

Dr Wendy Edwards, Research Manager,
Crohn's and Colitis UK

The report was published with the support of Researchfish, which measured the impact of the research we have funded.

We were delighted to support Crohn's and Colitis UK in this exciting look at the research they have funded, revealing and evidencing the significant impact that the work of the charity has had on the lives of those affected by the disease. This Research Impact Report demonstrates the huge value and importance to funders seeking information on outputs, outcomes and impacts from their researchers, enabling smarter funding decisions to be made and detailed reports to stakeholders on the difference they have and will continue to make.
