Reader Volunteer

Our Reader Volunteers provide feedback on our information resources, including online information and videos.

You do not need to have any specialist training or knowledge, you just need experience of living with Crohn's or Colitis. Maybe you have one of the conditions yourself, or someone close to you is living with Crohn's or Colitis. If you sign up to be a Reader Volunteer you should be able use your experience to comment on our information from a reader's point of view.

As we are a UK based charity, currently we can only accept volunteer applications from people based in the UK. If you are aged under 18 years old, you will need to provide consent from a responsible adult.

What do Reader Volunteers do?

Reader Volunteers are a valuable part of how we write and present our information. Reader Volunteers help us to improve our information, making sure it is relevant and easy to understand.

If you join our panel of Reader Volunteers, we’ll email you new versions of our information and ask for your feedback. How often we send you drafts depends on your expertise and interests, and which information resources are coming up for review.

When we ask for feedback, we may ask you to answer questions such as:

  • Does the information use jargon or medical terms without enough explanation?
  • Is there anything missing that you feel should be included?

This is not a writing, editing or proofing role, so we don’t ask you to comment on the grammar or punctuation.

You’ll normally have a couple of weeks to complete your review. If for any reason you cannot complete a review (for example, if you’re unwell or on holiday), you can just let us know and we’ll ask another volunteer.

Have a look at just some of the information Reader Volunteers have helped us to create!
