Our Spring Raffle raised over £80,000

Research has found that one in 10 people wait up to five years for a diagnosis after first speaking to a doctor about gut symptoms. It’s thanks to our dedicated members and supporters, who worked hard selling raffle tickets to family, friends and colleagues, that a fantastic £80,000 was raised to help us address this problem.

The money will go towards increasing awareness of the symptoms of Crohn’s and Colitis among the general public, and among community health professionals, so that people with symptoms are referred to a gastroenterologist much sooner.

It will also help us lobby politicians and policymakers to ensure that Crohn’s and Colitis is on their agenda, and that health services are supported to provide the right care.

For a £1 ticket, players were in with a chance of landing the top cash prize of £2,500 in the draw, which took place in late June.

Stephen Wilson, the lucky winner of the second prize of £500, was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis around 20 years ago and has been a member of Crohn’s & Colitis UK for a number of years. “Thankfully all the specialist support and medication has helped me to live a full and fairly normal life, while working in the UK and abroad,” he says.

“I’m pleased to tell you that we are using the winnings to partially fund a staycation return to Wales in September. We will definitely raise a glass to Crohn’s & Colitis UK while there, probably as we celebrate my wife’s birthday. I may also have a little left of the winnings to fund a celebration of our golden wedding anniversary with family in October.”

If you missed out on the raffle, don’t forget you can still play our weekly lottery. A £1 ticket means you’re in with a chance of winning the £25,000 jackpot or a range of other cash prizes. Plus, you’re helping support our work to improve the lives of people with Crohn’s and Colitis and eventually to find a cure.
