Research funding increased to £200,000 in 2021

Focus is on ways to get people the right treatment at the right time.

We’re excited to announce that we now have £200,000 available to fund research into Crohn’s and Colitis this year – that’s double the amount projected back in the spring.

It’s all down to the generosity of our amazing donors, fundraisers and those who left us legacies. Your support enables us to initiate groundbreaking research projects that will help develop effective treatments and improve the lives of people with Crohn’s or Colitis.

The past year or so has been extremely challenging for research. As with many charities, we experienced a significant drop in income in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Researchers were also re-deployed to support the NHS or to work on COVID-19 research. This meant there was less money to spend on research and we had to cancel our application process for research funding last year and pause all of our existing grant funding for several months.

Now, we’re thrilled that we are again able to provide opportunities for novel and innovative research projects to get up and running. This year we asked researchers to develop projects that focus on giving the people who are living with Crohn’s or Colitis the right treatment at the right time. Our aim is to improve lives right now and, ultimately, to find a cure. We will be announcing further details of the exciting new projects that we will be funding later on this year.

There are lots of ways that you can get involved too. Research advances can only happen with the involvement of people who are affected by Crohn’s or Colitis. Take a look at our opportunities here and save the date for the virtual Patient Involvement in Research day on Saturday 6th November – more details on how to sign up coming soon.
