New look for Crohn’s & Colitis UK with a ten-year ambition to transform understanding of bowel disease

Crohn’s & Colitis UK, the leading charity for those affected by Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis is today launching a bold new identity together with a ten-year strategic ambition to transform understanding of Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

The charity’s new look - designed in partnership with creative agency The Clearing - puts people with lived experience of the conditions front and centre of its communications. There’s also an eye-catching new logo, featuring an ampersand inspired by the gut.

Around one in every 120 people in the UK lives with Crohn’s or Colitis, with 25,000 diagnosed every year. Many of them will be under 30 at the point of diagnosis, and as there is no cure for either condition, that means a lifetime of dealing with unpredictable and often debilitating symptoms.

Although these life-changing diseases are on the rise, they still don’t command the attention afforded to other chronic conditions. The charity has put in place plans to bridge that gap and transform the world for everyone affected by Crohn’s or Colitis by 2036. Marianne Radcliffe, Chief Executive Officer of Crohn's & Colitis UK said:

“This is our blueprint to transform understanding of Crohn’s and Colitis, so that people are diagnosed quickly and live well. Crohn’s & Colitis UK has a powerful community at its heart  - what matters most to them is at the centre of everything we do.

"We have spent the past year talking – and crucially listening - to researchers and healthcare professionals,  patients and their families. Now we’re ready to unite our community to set out the roadmap to a cure.

“We’re also changing the way we communicate so that people living with the conditions no longer feel invisible and overlooked. We’ve got a bold, new look to get people talking about Crohn’s and Colitis as never before. That includes new brand colours, a striking new logo, and a strong new campaign for our upcoming Awareness Week from 1st-7th December.

“We have been incredibly busy investing in our future success so we can amplify the voices of everyone affected by Crohn's and Colitis. It’s an exciting time to be at the helm of this wonderful charity and we can’t wait for what comes next."

David Batte from Hull, who was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease in his late 20s and has worked closely with the charity for years, said:

"I've lived with Crohn's for more than half my life and there have been many ups and downs. I've always thought of Crohn's & Colitis UK as fighting my corner. It's a charity that truly understands the reality of how it feels to live with one of these conditions and it's connected me with a whole community.

“Understanding of Crohn's and Colitis has improved in recent years but there's still a long way to go - and I'm proud to be working with Crohn's & Colitis UK to raise awareness and make a change for the future."

  3. This fresh new approach has been tested robustly on a wide range of audiences and will help Crohn’s & Colitis UK to provide vital support to so many. We have worked hard to keep costs to a minimum and are replacing materials as we run down stocks. The £89,000 the charity has invested is good value for money and comparable to what other charities of a similar size have spent.
