"Just being able to spare what you can will make a difference"

Published: 01 June 2016

What has been your biggest achievement or highlight volunteering for Crohn's & Colitis UK?

The rewarding feeling of seeing people you help and support. I don't only just help others, by volunteering I help myself living with the condition.

Even though I have achieved some really big achievements e.g. skydiving from 15,000ft, being elected for EFCCA board and being asked to take part in other aspects of the charity, I would hand on heart say it is the day to day conversations and support fellow fighters.

What would you say to someone who is thinking about volunteering with Crohn's & Colitis UK?

It doesn't matter how little or as much time you can give, just being able to spare what you can will make a difference.

I have never experienced feeling isolated if I am having a bad day and cant full fill commitments so that shouldn't be a concern and with the rewarding feeling you have in return is heart-warming and truly satisfying.

In the end we only regret the chances we didn't take, and the only difference between a good day and a bad day is your attitude - so if you are having a bad day remember you are a fighter and have got this far so don't think about what could hold you back, think about what you could achieve.

Volunteering was the best thing I ever did!!

What three words would you use to describe your volunteering experience?

Emotional but rewarding and empowering.

1-12 June 2016 is #VolunteersWeek and we are celebrating our wonderful volunteers and highlighting the different ways you can show your support.
