Awareness Week 2020 - How did it go?
Here's how you made a difference:
To mark Giving Tuesday, hundreds of you explored new ways to support us in a year that has been particularly tough. Every single donation makes a massive difference to the work we do.
What better time to spread the word than Awareness Week!? We inspired people to open up in new ways and to new people, with a little help from our Talking Toolkit and the #4factschallenge. It was amazing to see all the facts being shared on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter throughout the week.
We asked family and friends to experience first-hand what it's like to have Crohn's or Colitis with In My Shoes, an immersive 24-hour experience for anyone to try. This programme was developed with and partially funded by pharmaceutical company Takeda UK, one of Crohn's & Colitis UK's corporate partners.
Over 800 of you registered for Purple Friday, our annual event that sees the Crohn's and Colitis community paint the UK purple in aid of Crohn's & Colitis UK.
Nearly 2,000 people took action during Awareness Week - and it's not too late to join them! Sign up to take part in research or write to your local councillor (or both!) below.
We teamed up with craft blogger Joanna Paige to help you create the perfect Star of Hope for your tree, as part of our annual campaign.
CREATE YOUR OWN

Our partners at My IBD Care also marked Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Week by #SharingVoices across their social media and shining a light on the Crohn's and Colitis community.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my story. Hearing everyone's experience makes me feel less alone and extremely empowered, as it reminds me that we are all in it together. Sharing so many stories and raising awareness helps to normalise Crohn's and Colitis.
My IBD Care also hosted two hugely successful webinars, with over 100 people tuning in to hear from experts and people living with Crohn's or Colitis on a range of topics including:
- How to live a full life with Crohn's or Colitis
- Tips for life in lockdown
- Storytelling with Crohn's or Colitis
- The psychology of pain and fatigue
- Managing pain and fatigue
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
This was amazing, for the first time I did not feel alone. Thank you for sharing. I wish we could do this all the time. Kay, Vera, Rosie, I am humbled and inspired.
It's helped me feel less alone and inspired to live my life, my way without the disease making all my choices for me.
This has really helped me feel more positive today - I'm In the middle of a nasty flare - but this has really cheered me up.
Thank you to everyone who made Crohn's and Colitis Awareness Week 2020 a success - See you next year!
