On Wednesday 16th July Councillor Hardial Singh Rai accompanied by his family, friends and a group of dedicated fundraising volunteers presented Crohn's and Colitis UK with a cheque for £37,189.31.
Councillor Hardial Singh Rai raises £37,000 as Mayor of Barking & Dagenham
This amazing achievement was also the highest amount raised by a Mayor of Barking and Dagenham in office
In his time in office as Mayor, Councillor Rai had chosen Crohn's and Colitis UK as his charity of the year as a family member has Crohn's Disease.
He attended over 300 engagements and there were a number of fundraising activities held throughout the year including the Lord Mayor's parade held in London on New Year's day, a quiz night at Dagenham and Redbridge Football Club, a Charity Showcase as well as a number of other events.
All at Crohn's and Colitis UK would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Councillor Rai and his family who worked so hard in steering the fundraising efforts, the group of amazing volunteers who put so much effort into supporting the Mayor all year long and the staff team at Barking and Dagenham Democratic Services.
The combined efforts of all involved enabled records to be broken and this fantastic achievement to be made.
