Crohn’s & Colitis UK partner with Janssen UK and five other charities on a new podcast to support people affected by autoimmune and immune-mediated conditions

Published: 06 March 2023

Listen now to a new podcast series, One Immune Voice, which aims to support people affected by autoimmune and immune-mediated conditions. The six-part series has been developed and funded by Janssen UK, in partnership with six leading charities representing people with immune-mediated conditions including Crohn’s & Colitis UK.

Podcast listeners hear first-hand from six charities and from people living with various autoimmune and immune-mediated conditions about:

  • how to manage your condition and where to go to for support
  • how best to navigate the healthcare system
  • looking after mental health and wellbeing.

One Immune Voice is hosted by award-winning broadcaster and author, Claudia Hammond. She is joined by Crohn’s & Colitis UK staff, Ruth Wakeman and Rachel Ainley, in two of the episodes, as well as by Lucy, who is living with Crohn’s disease.

Lucy shares her story in Episode 3 which looks at the issues people may face before they are diagnosed with an autoimmune or immune mediated condition. Contributors also discuss the importance of encouraging people to feel confident in approaching their GP with symptoms. Ruth Wakeman, Director of Services, Advocacy and Evidence at Crohn’s and Colitis UK also highlights the dangers of misinformation online.

You wouldn't try and fix your car through asking people on TikTok, so why would you do that for your own body? If you've got symptoms, you need expert advice, so don't ignore them. It's important to go and see a GP.

In Episode 6, the podcast reflects on living well with autoimmune and immune-mediated conditions. The episode focuses on self-management and offers practical tips for friends, family and carers as well as how individuals can take steps to build their network of support.

Supported self-management is about people working in partnership with their health and care services to encourage, support and empower them to really be in control of their health and wellbeing, from both a physical and emotional perspective.

The series is developed and funded by Janssen-Cilag Ltd in partnership with: Crohn’s & Colitis UK, IBD Relief, Lupus UK, National Axial Spondyloarthritis Society (NASS), National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society (NRAS) and The Psoriasis Association.

Episodes 1-6 of One Immune Voice are now available to listen to and download via Spotify, Apple, and Soundcloud podcast platforms.
