Tuesday 13 November saw the launch of #PurpleTuesday - a day encouraging UK retailers to highlight the difficulties disabled shoppers face, and the measures that can be put in place to overcome them.
Purple Tuesday: Crohn's & Colitis UK shows its support
Over 500 retailers have already signed up to help promote disability awareness, backed by the Government with the endorsement of Sarah Newton, the Minister of State for Disabled People, Health and Work.
We are supporting the Purple Tuesday initiative by working with the organisation, Purple, to roll out the 'Not Every Disability is Visible' toilet signage to all retail areas in order to help tackle the stigma and challenge faced by those living with Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and other invisible disabilities which make up 80% of all disabled people.
Our support comes following feedback from our supporters which said 98% of you wanted us to continue with this award-winning campaign.

This fantastic initiative should see the reach of the Not Every Disability is Visible campaign extend to a huge amount of retail areas, helping fight stigma, raise awareness of the needs of those with hidden conditions and help build confidence by making the shopping experience a more comfortable experience.
In support of Purple Tuesday, The Galleria shopping centre is installing the signage on all their accessible toilets.
Beyond Purple Tuesday, we will be working with Purple and participating organisations to support them, including customer service training and the installation of the Not Every Disability is Visible signage.

We’re delighted that Crohn’s & Colitis UK is supporting Purple Tuesday to promote better accessibility for disabled shoppers. This is a collaborative campaign that extends far beyond one day, and it’s vital that retail organisations come together to make shopping more pleasurable for everyone.
