Crohn’s & Colitis UK have launched a new project to help speed up the diagnosis of Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis - the two main forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) - and raise awareness of IBD in primary care.
GP Project launched and we need your feedback
This year’s big IBD survey found that, for one in three respondents, getting a diagnosis of IBD took more than two years – for one in six, it took more than five years. Support from GPs was rated as important by nearly half of those surveyed, but you consistently tell us that GP awareness and understanding of IBD needs to be improved.
Over the next year, we will be developing tools and resources to ensure that GPs are better able to recognise the symptoms of IBD and to support their patients more effectively. We are delighted to be working with an expert project advisory group, which includes patient and professional representatives. The project will also be informed by patient and GP reference groups to provide a wider perspective.
