We are delighted to have received an 'Awards for All' grant from the Big Lottery Fund. This will fund a new children’s resource to help them better understand and manage a brighter future with Crohn’s or Colitis.
Children's information resource to be funded by Big Lottery Fund
Research has shown us that if children can take control of their condition, they can be more active members of their community, at home and school, not letting their condition affect their full potential.
Having an age-appropriate resource, they can relate to, could empower children to make the right choices for themselves and learn to better self-care. Currently there is no resource that meets this need.
We wanted to find out what would appeal most to young patients so worked with Justice Studio – a research company – to ensure we did this in the most effective way. They facilitated the involvement of children, parents and carers in shaping this new resource.
We aim to have this ready for the middle of next year and want to thank all those who have helped shape this project so far.
We are excited that Big Lottery funding will enable us to create this much-needed resource. A quarter of people diagnosed with Crohn’s or Colitis are under 16, but there’s currently little out there to help them understand what’s going on in their bodies, leaving them feeling scared and confused. Information specifically designed with their needs in mind will make a huge difference in helping the thousands of children living with Crohn’s or Colitis come to terms with their condition.
Our thanks to the Big Lottery Fund for making this possible and enabling us to support many more children and young people to overcome the limits of living with their disease.
