New All-Party Parliamentary Group launched on Crohn's and Colitis

Published: 26 July 2023

We are delighted to announce that an All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Crohn's and Colitis has started work in the UK Parliament!

The APPG is a cross-party group of MPs and peers with an interest in Crohn’s or Colitis. Any member of any party across both Houses of Parliament can join. The aim of the APPG is to raise awareness of the conditions among parliamentarians and influence legislation and policy makers to improve the lives of people affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

This APPG will work to better understand the impact of Crohn’s and Colitis, to improve diagnosis and care, and drive research funding to discover better ways of helping you manage your condition. The group will meet in Parliament throughout the next year to develop briefings and action plans to achieve these objectives.

Co-chairs of the APPG are Scottish National Party MP for Livingston, Hannah Bardell, and Liberal Democrat MP for Chesham and Amersham, Sarah Green.

As the leading charity for people affected by the conditions, Crohn’s & Colitis UK will provide the secretariat for the group.

We are delighted that MPs are showing their support for people with Crohn’s and Colitis by setting up this All-Party Parliamentary Group. Their voices can really make a difference to every single person with Crohn’s and Colitis – whoever and wherever they are. Patients deserve access to personalised, joined-up care – allowing them to live a full life. We look forward to working with MPs and Peers to help raise the voices of people with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, maintaining political pressure on the issues that matter to our community”

I know from my own family the impact Crohn’s and Colitis can have on a person's life. It’s so important that we address barriers they face in diagnosis, care and support. That’s why I raised the issue at PMQs and am now setting up the new APPG

If you have any questions about the work of the group, please feel free to get in touch with us at policy@crohnsandcolitis.org.uk.
