Two new podcasts have been developed as part of the Crohn’s & Colitis UK and RCGP Spotlight Project to raise awareness of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in primary care.
New IBD podcasts for GPs
The first podcast features the project’s clinical champion, Dr Kevin Barrett, talking to Rachel Fowler, a patient with IBD who also sits on the project’s steering group, about her experiences of diagnosis, flare management and wider support.
In the second podcast, Kevin talks to Vanessa Cambridge, an IBD clinical nurse specialist from the Royal United Hospitals in Bath about the role of an IBD nurse and how GPs and IBD nurses can work together to ensure people with possible IBD are investigated and referred promptly and appropriately and to provide well-coordinated support for Crohn's and Colitis patients.
I hope that this project will really change things for everyone with IBD or who might have IBD. The podcasts give GPs an insight into the experience of being a patient and the IBD nurse role, which is often a bridge between primary and secondary care.
The podcasts form part of a toolkit for GPs and other primary care health professionals which aims to be a one-stop shop for information and resources on IBD. They can be accessed by anyone for free from the RCGP website or using the links below. A 30-minute eLearning Module which will be free to access for all registered health professionals will be added in February.
