New Ileoanal Pouch Report launched

Published: 10 July 2017

About one in four people with Ulcerative Colitis will require an operation at some time during their lives, with the pouch surgery being one of the most common procedures.

The 2017 Ileoanal Pouch Report (pdf), launched this week by the ACPGBI (Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland) tells us about the outcomes of over 5,000 people who have had pouch operations under the care of about 150 surgeons.

Crohn’s & Colitis UK welcome the publication of this report which presents comprehensive information on surgical outcomes, the number of operations performed at each hospital, re-admission rates and length-of-stay.

Having pouch surgery is a life-changing option offering hope for many people with Ulcerative Colitis, but it's so important that they have the best possible information about what to expect.  This report will help people considering pouch surgery to have open and honest discussions with their surgeons about their expectations and any personal concerns. This way, they can understand the options available to them and make an informed decision together.
