Share your views and shape the NHS!

The Government has recently launched a public consultation for a new 10-Year Health Plan for the NHS in England. This is your opportunity to share your experiences and highlight the changes needed to improve care for people living with Crohn's and Colitis. Crohn's & Colitis UK will be responding to the consultation and whether you live with one of the conditions, or have a loved one who does, we encourage you to take a few minutes out of your day to share your views. To support you with this, here is some more information about the consultation and what you may want to consider as part of your response.

As part of the consultation, you'll be asked to share your thoughts on:

  • General feedback on positives and challenges of the NHS;
  • How moving care from hospitals to the community could improve health and care, and any concerns about how this could affect your care or the care of loved ones;
  • How technology could be used to improve health and care, and any concerns about how this could affect your care or the care of loved ones;
  • How a greater focus on prevention could help people stay healthy, and any concerns about focusing on this.

We know that everyone's experience of living with IBD and the care received is different, and we encourage you to share your personal experiences when responding to the survey. We've outlined some prompts that you could consider including in your response, if they are relevant to you:

  • It would be easier to get a diagnosis if...
  • Faster access to IBD specialists is important because...
  • Good access to IBD specialists has/could look like...
  • Quality IBD care in the community should include...
  • Receiving IBD care outside of hospital would impact my health by...
  • Personalised IBD care that considers all of my symptoms should include...

Share your views!

Based on what we've heard from our community, these are some of the key improvements we will be continuing to call for in our response to the consultation:

  • Make it easier to get a diagnosis by having consistent and timely processes, and easier access to tests.
  • Ensure specialist advice is more accessible for those living with IBD.
  • Enable patients to access treatment and medication outside of hospital.
  • Improve support for patients to manage symptoms beyond the gut.
  • Provide more opportunities for patient views to be considered and listened to when developing services.

If you have any questions or would like to share your responses, please email campaigns@crohnsandcolitis.org.uk
