Our view: Beating the drum for high quality IBD care

Published: 29 November 2017

Mark Holley, lead singer of Black Foxxes, shows how he manages his life in a rock band with his Crohn’s Disease, including treatment and the unpredictability of flares.

The BBC Newsbeat article and documentary highlights the need for greater guidance so that patients, in partnership with clinicians, understand treatment options at the each stage of their disease and how their condition can be managed alongside other medical and wellbeing needs.

While there are clear standards in how services should work and what good care looks like, there is still wide variation across services.

Crohn’s & Colitis UK are working together with health care professionals in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to improve the quality of services and care and ensure the national standards that are in place are implemented.

Our guide, My Crohn’s and Colitis Care, outlines the top 10 essentials of a good IBD Service, based on the IBD Standards and can help you to get the best from your care.

As a key theme of our new five-year strategy, we will focus on driving high quality, sustainable care across the UK, so people with Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis receive the right treatment in the right place at the right time.
