Professor Chris Lamb appointed Chair of the IBD UK Alliance

We’re pleased to share that Professor Chris Lamb, a Consultant and Professor of Gastroenterology based in Newcastle, has been appointed as the new Chair of the IBD UK Alliance.

Chris, who took up his new role at the start of June, is passionate about improving the lives of people affected by Crohn’s or Colitis. He has worked closely with Crohn’s & Colitis UK for many years and is a well-respected researcher and clinician working at the forefront of Inflammatory Bowel Disease care here in the UK.

Improving care together

The IBD UK Alliance is a partnership of 16 professional bodies, royal colleges and patient organisations including Crohn’s & Colitis UK. We are all working towards the same goal: better, more consistent care for everyone living with IBD.

Chris has been part of this work for a long time and helped develop the 2026 IBD Standards, which were launched in April. You can read more about the Standards here. He believes strongly in working together and in making sure the patient voice is heard. We are really looking forward to supporting him in his new role.

I am delighted to be taking on this role at a time when improving care for people living with Inflammatory Bowel Disease across the UK is so crucial.

The Alliance is a uniquely powerful partnership, and I'm particularly passionate about the opportunity to strengthen collaboration across our community alongside key organisations such as Crohn's & Colitis UK.

By bringing together lived experience, clinical expertise and system leadership, we can build on the strong foundations already in place and drive meaningful change.

Thank you

Finally, huge thanks to everyone who has been a part of this important work. Together, we can keep improving care and support for everyone affected by Crohn’s or Colitis.
