It is with tremendous sadness that we have to inform you that Richard Driscoll (former Chief Executive of Crohn's & Colitis UK) passed away on Saturday 21st October following a severe heart attack on Wednesday last week.
Richard Driscoll (1950-2017)

Richard served the charity for 20 years, originally as Director and then Chief Executive of NACC (National Association of Colitis and Crohn’s) and more recently as Chief Executive of Crohn’s & Colitis UK.
Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him, or working with him, will know what an engaging, warm and compassionate man he was.
He worked tirelessly and selflessly for the charity and was enormously popular with everyone he met. We will all miss his friendship, wisdom and determination to improve the lives of everyone affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).
Since leaving Crohn’s & Colitis UK in 2012, Richard continued to dedicate his life to helping people affected by IBD working on a variety of projects in the UK and internationally. Richard served as a Trustee for the British Society of Gastroenterology, was Chairman of Health Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP) and most recently had a key role as Development Lead for the UK IBD Registry.
His impact across the field of gastroenterology has been enormous and he will be sorely missed.
Of the many legacies Richard has left, Crohn’s & Colitis UK has to be one of his very finest and, at the appropriate time, we will find a way to ensure that his memory and legacy lives on within the charity.
Richard is survived by his wife Aviva, sons Adam, Sam and Johnny and by three grandchildren. We have sent our sincerest condolences on behalf of everyone involved in the charity.
Details of the funeral and evening 'Shiva' prayers (a place for people to share stories and see the family if unable to attend the funeral) can be found on Richard Driscoll's memorial website - anyone who knew Richard can also add a message or a photo there.
Our thoughts are with Aviva and all of Richard’s family and friends.
David Barker
Chief Executive
