Sam Cleasby included in Disability Power 100 List

Crohn's & Colitis UK community champion Sam Cleasby is a blogger, activist, community worker and BBC radio presenter, who has been announced as one of the most influential people with a disability in the UK.

The Shaw Trust Disability Power 100 List is an annual publication of the 100 most influential disabled people in the UK. More than 700 nominations were received for the 100 places.

Sam started her award winning blog five years ago talking about Inflammatory Bowel Disease and life with an ostomy bag and has had over 3 million views. She works for disability charity Scope, volunteers for Crohn's & Colitis UK and is a presenter on BBC Radio Sheffield.

“”

I am so honoured to be recognised on the Shaw Trust Disability Power 100, all the work I do is simply to help others feel less alone, to raise awareness and to educate others.  When I had my first surgery I felt so isolated and scared and I made it my aim that no one else would feel like this. Through sharing my story I am so humbled to have been part of so many other lives and to gain this recognition is just the icing on the cake!

The Disability Power 100 List is compiled by an independent judging panel, chaired by Kate Nash OBE. Kate is the world's leading authority in 'Networkology' - the science behind the growth of workplace networks and resource groups. In 2007 Kate was awarded an OBE for services to disabled people. Kate was appointed Ambassador to Disability Rights UK in 2013.

Congratulations to Sam Cleasby. The judges were beyond impressed by the standard of nominations but selected the most influential people who are proving that disability or impairment is not a barrier to success. One of our aims for the Disability Power 100 list is to demonstrate to young people that they can achieve their ambitions. At Shaw Trust we work with government, local authorities and employers to support people overcome barriers which hold them back from achieving their potential.
