Schindler coast to coast challenge completed
Over the weekend of 19th and 20th July, 'Team Schindler' rose to the challenge of completing their 140 mile coast-to-coast bike ride.
Starting at Whitehaven in Cumbria and finishing at Tynemouth on the North East coast, this involved a total ascent of 11,4860ft with a maximum elevation of 1,986ft!
Schindler has adopted Crohn’s and Colitis UK as our preferred Charity for 2014 and, for this event, we will also be supporting Cancer Research UK. We decided to plan a significant event to increase awareness of both these conditions as well as raising much needed funds to fight both Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Cancer. As most of us in the team have had not been in the saddle since we were kids, it seemed like an obvious challenge to cycle coast-to-coast over some of England’s biggest hills! The target of raising £20,000 for well deserving causes drove us to complete the challenge.
Schindler are really pleased to announce that they smashed their target and expect the total raised to be around £25,000. They would like to extend a huge thank you to the generosity of Schindler staff and Schindler partners including Remdale Limited, Orton Lifts & Escalators Ltd, Dornack International Limited, Triple A, Elevator Equipment Limited, Reeley Limited, Lift & Escalator Jobs, UK Service Lifts Ltd, JH Elevators Limited, Northern Escalator Installations LLP, Windcrest LiftBits Limited, Web Electrical Limited, MKM Elevators Limited, Thames Valley Controls Limited and Southern Contract Services Limited.
The event was truly awesome! It was certainly the biggest challenge that most of us have ever undertaken. The hills were relentless and the weather atrocious, but the reward of raising much needed cash for you guys and Cancer Research spurred us on. Team Schindler looks to have smashed the £20,000.00 fundraising target they set.
The riders were, Alan Johnson, Paul Baker, Ian Rayner, Richard Clarke, Neil Deighton, Graham Barker, Paul Carrick, Tom Engel, Richard Fridd (intu), Steve Johnson, Simon Rogers, Simon Waldeck, Adrian Rowlands, John Van Rein, Karl Walker (intu) and Eddie Watkins.

Congratulations to all those involved!
