Siobhan-Marie O'Connor to open WALK IT Bristol!

Published: 04 April 2019

We are pleased to announce that silver medal-winning Olympic swimmer, Siobhan-Marie O’Connor, will officially be opening Crohn’s & Colitis UK's first WALK IT event of the year at Bristol on Saturday 18 May.

Siobhan-Marie was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis seven years ago after competing at the London 2012 Olympics and became the first British Woman to win an Olympic medal in the 200m individual medley, missing out on a gold medal by 0.3 seconds in the Rio 2016 Olympics.

For the past two years, Siobhan-Marie has supported the charity and spoken publicly of her experiences of living with Colitis. After opening the walk for the charity last year, she was thrilled to be asked to attend again.

“”

It’s been so rewarding since I have spoken about it. People go so long without getting a diagnosis because they do not know the symptoms, and we should all be more aware of it. I am really honoured to have been asked to open the very first WALK IT event of the year in Bristol this May. I had such a brilliant time at the event last year and I am so excited for what I know will be a great day!

Walkers who sign up for WALK IT Bristol will explore the city’s sights and take in the River Avon before returning to the event village for a great afternoon of fun, food and entertainment.

It takes guts to live with Crohn's and Colitis and that’s why the charity is bringing people together to march through the streets of of Bristol, Swansea, London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Birmingham and Plymouth this summer.
