United For Colitis raises £100k for charity

Published: 28 March 2014

An exclusive night of fundraising and entertainment in aid of Crohn's & Colitis UK took place at Old Trafford last night.

Crohn's & Colitis UK would like to say a huge thank you and congratulations to everybody involved with United for Colitis for an amazing night's entertainment, which raised a staggering £100,000 for our charity.

Darren Fletcher and some of his Manchester Utd team mates, including Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand, Lewis Moody (ex-England Rugby captain), Sir Alex Ferguson and pop singer Olly Murs were in attendance to support our cause.

The black-tie event brought sports people together for the cause of Ulcerative Colitis, to increase awareness of the disease, and raise money for research into finding a cure for Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

The dinner dance was organised by Jon and Diana McLeish, with proceeds going to both Crohn's & Colitis UK, and to meet the needs of IBD patients living in Manchester and the surrounding areas.

Jon is the son of Alex McLeish, former football player for Scotland and Premier League manager, and has suffered with Ulcerative Colitis since 2007.

The United for Colitis event was absolutely tremendous helping us to raise desperately needed awareness and funds - a win, win activity! Our enormous thanks to Jon and Diana McLeish, Darren Fletcher, Lewis Moody and to everyone else who made the event such a success - we are lucky to have such a dedicated team working alongside us to support people with Crohn's and Colitis.
