Research into COVID-19 and how it affects people with Crohn's or Colitis.

There have been many studies looking at COVID-19 and Crohn’s and Colitis, investigating areas such as:

  • Symptoms, like pain or gastrointestinal symptoms, and flares during the pandemic.
  • The impact of different Crohn’s and Colitis medicines on the severity of COVID-19 illness.
  • The development of antibodies in people with Crohn’s and Colitis – in those infected with the coronavirus or in response to the vaccine.

What have completed projects found?

CLARITY IBD

The CLARITY trial is looking at the impact of infliximab and vedolizumab on COVID-19 infection, vaccination and immune response in people with Crohn’s or Colitis.

The Impact of COVID-19 on People Suffering from Chronic Pain

Researchers wanted to find out how people with chronic pain (i.e., pelvic, stomach, back, neck, shoulder, nerve pain etc.) were affected by the pandemic.

SECURE-IBD

SECURE-IBD is an international database used to monitor and report on how people with Crohn’s or Colitis have been affected if they have caught COVID-19.

Our Life in Lockdown survey ran during June and July - people with Crohn’s and Colitis took part to help us understand the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
