Information on food and diet, made easier to digest.

Food can be an important part of life. Beyond giving us the nutrients and energy we need to survive, food can also bring joy and social connection. But we know that if you're living with Crohn's or Colitis, food can be a source of confusion and worry. It can be hard to sort food facts from food fiction, and to know what your diagnosis might mean for you and your diet.

More than 750 people joined our first webinar on this topic last year. Specialist dietitian Katie's presentation was praised for being 'helpful and practical' and 'interesting, informative, clear and succinct'. A number of people said they wanted to hear more from Katie, and we listened! We're delighted to welcome her back this year.

Katie says:

"I was quite overwhelmed by the positive response, the level of interest in the impact of diet on this condition, and how many people were in need of dietary advice and support. I was really pleased to be asked to talk again this year, and hope to share my knowledge with more people living with IBD across the UK who may not be fortunate enough to have access to a dietitian in their local area."

We're also grateful to be joined by Chris, who lives with Ulcerative Colitis and will share his personal experience of navigating food choices before and after ileostomy.

While this webinar will revisit some of the key topics covered in last year's webinar on food and diet, we'll be exploring them in greater depth, with more time to share practical tips and answer some of your questions. Whether you're joining us for the first time or returning for a deeper dive, we hope you'll take away something new.

Chris Hibbs, also known as The Stoma Accountant, was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2013 after initially being told his symptoms were due to haemorrhoids. Over the following years, Chris went through numerous treatments including steroids, immunosuppressants and biologic medications. Although some treatments gave him periods of remission, his condition eventually became severe and, in December 2020, he underwent surgery to remove his colon and form an ileostomy. Since surgery, Chris has used his own experiences to raise awareness of IBD and life with a stoma. Through The Stoma Accountant, he shares the realities of living with an ileostomy, including the challenges, adjustments and freedom it has given him. Chris is passionate about reducing the stigma surrounding stomas and helping others feel less alone, while showing that life after stoma surgery can still be full, active and enjoyable.

Catherine Winsor has worked in the healthcare charity sector for over 20 years, including senior roles at Prostate Cancer UK and Bowel Cancer UK, leading teams focused on improving healthcare pathways and the provision of patient support services. Catherine is passionate about health inequality and improving access to support for everyone.

Living with Ulcerative Colitis and now an ileostomy has taught me that there really is no one-size-fits-all approach to food. I’m looking forward to sharing what I’ve learned, the mistakes I’ve made, and how I found a balance that works for me. I hope my story helps others feel more confident, less restricted and a little less alone while they figure out what works for their own body.
