Using your voice to shape Social Security policy in Scotland

Published: 22 August 2023

The Scottish Government have published the analysis of responses to their consultation on the mobilty component of Adult Disability Payment (ADP), the benefit which replaces Personal Independence Payment (PIP) in Scotland.

By sharing your experiences, we were able to shape our consultation response so that policymakers learn from the issues with PIP and seek to improve the assessment process of ADP for people with Crohn’s and Colitis.

We’re delighted that the analysis of responses picks up on the major themes of our submission including:

  • Ensuring all aspects of mobility are considered, including a range of additional impacts reflecting clients' lived experiences before, during and after moving around.
  • That the criteria should not judge movement in isolation from the reality of moving around and should consider the complexity of the circumstances people encounter when moving.
  • That the eligibility criteria are not appropriate for those with fluctuating conditions.

The views expressed in the consultation will now assist the Scottish Government in deciding and delivering on further improvements to the new benefit. We will keep you updated with further announcements.
