Sometimes, it can be difficult knowing how you can help a loved one living with Crohn's or Colitis. That's why we've created information and resources to help you to support them, and to ensure you look after yourself too.
Someone I'm related to
This page includes everything from key facts about supporting people living with either condition, as well as tips to help, ways to look after yourself, and sources of support if you need them.
Our Living with Crohn's or Colitis hub offers information on the conditions and advice for the newly diagnosed, as well as information on topics such as mental health, travelling, smoking, pregnancy, food and more. Reading this information can help you understand what your loved one might be experiencing so you can support them in little ways that may have big impacts.
Become a member
You can join on behalf of someone under 16, gift a membership, or share a family membership with 2 other people at the same address. As part of your membership, you'll receive a Can't Wait Card to quickly communicate the need for a toilet when you're out, a RADAR key to unlock disabled toilets, Connect magazine, virtual social events, exclusive invites to other events and a chance to vote at our Annual General Meetings, and lots more.
I joined after our son was diagnosed and was so pleased to receive such useful information given in a non-alarmist way. My husband and I attended a number of your annual meetings and we were impressed with your organisation, the content and the wide variety of speakers.
Carers Trust and Carers UK
Working to help unpaid carers, these charities offer support, advice and resources to allow those looking after people who need additional support to live fulfilled lives.
CICRA
CICRA works to support children and families living with IBD specifically. They aim to ensure children and families get the information and support they need.
If you're a parent or guardian, it's only natural to wonder how you can support your child with the condition, and what it could mean for your family. Our Supporting a child with Crohn's or Colitis page can help.
Young people with Crohn's or Colitis don't want their condition to get in the way, but sometimes it can be hard to maintain and make new friendships. Our guide was put together with researchers from Edge Hill University, and can help you understand how the conditions might affect their friendships, how they might feel, and how you can support their friendships.
Going from children's care to the adult IBD team might make you or the young person you're supporting feel nervous, and that's totally normal. Our information will help you know what you can expect.
Hear some top tips from JJ, a young person living with Crohn's
Diagnosed at age 7, JJ shares his top tips for other kids living with Crohn's or Colitis. You could share this with the young person you're supporting.
